Community Health Notice, 31 August 2020

 

On 31 August 2020, Queensland Health notified Hyperdome Centre Management that an individual now confirmed to have COVID-19 visited several stores at the Centre during the afternoon of Wednesday 26 August.

Specifically, this individual was at Hyperdome between approximately 3:15pm and 5:45pm and visited the following stores: 

 

  • Best & Less (between ~3:15pm and ~4.03pm)  
  • Kmart (between ~4.05pm and ~4.29pm)  
  • The Reject Shop (between unknown time and ~4:55pm)  
  • Footlocker (exact time is unknown)  
  • Platypus Shoes (exact time is unknown)  

The safety and wellbeing of our customers, retailers, staff, contractors and suppliers at Hyperdome is always our overriding priority and we take this notification extremely seriously.

On receiving this notification, our team acted swiftly, proactively and responsibly, with our actions guided by advice from Queensland Health.

In addition to our rigorous daily cleaning practices, we made the proactive decision to undertake a deep clean of the Centre’s common mall areas and amenities using high-grade disinfectant. The retailers identified as being visited by this individual are also working with Queensland Health to determine the steps that need to be taken, which may include undertaking additional deep cleaning within their individual tenancies.

Queensland Health are taking steps to identify who may have been in recent contact with the person who tested positive, and we understand that they will be making direct contact with those identified.

We are working closely with Queensland Health and the identified retailers and will follow Queensland Health’s advice with regards to next steps and are prepared to act accordingly, as necessary, if the situation develops further.

The health and wellbeing of our entire community remains our top priority and something we take very seriously. Throughout this COVID-19 period, we have upheld exemplary health standards, and will continue to do so to help mitigate the spread of infection and keep our community safe. These measures include: 

  • Strict adherence to our approved COVID Safe Plan.
  • increased daily cleaning, using high-grade disinfectant, to strengthen the focus on disinfecting commonly touched areas in the Centre, including communal areas, furniture, door handles, hand railings and bathroom amenities.
  • ensuring that our cleaning principles adhere to the guidelines set by the Federal Government’s Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection for COVID-19 principles.
  • positioning Government-issued posters in our bathroom facilities that include instructions on how to ‘stop the spread of the virus’, that our community can reference.
  • rolled out a Public Hygiene Advertisement Campaign across the Centre to reinforce preventative measures each of us can take to help keep ourselves and each other safe.
  • placement of hand sanitisation stations at key points throughout the Centre for our customers, staff and retailers to use.
  • adjusted air-conditioning systems to maximise the intake of fresh air, helping ensure a high-level of air quality.
  • close work with our retail partners to ensure they are also adhering to social distancing directives and managing crowds and queues in accordance with directives set by the relevant governing authorities, and regularly disinfecting their tenancy.

We will continue to share advice from authorities with our community, and we encourage everyone to take steps in accordance with advice from Queensland Health to assist in mitigating the spread of viral infections.
